Chris Haspell, Course Manager at Castle Stuart Golf Club, first saw the FieldScout TDR300 Soil Moisture Meter at the American Superintendents Golf Show. Castle Stuart is a links course on a pure sand base which opened in 2009. Located in Inverness in the Highlands the course has a picture perfect setting in winter and in a normal year there is limited rainfall.

TDR300

Chris wanted to invest in the TDR300 for “water conservation and the need to keep the sands at Castle Stuart from drying down completely”. The meter was purchased in April 2011 from EnviroMonitors. Since his purchase Chris has been “using the meter nearly every time I go out in the spring/summer to keep an eye on moisture levels”.

The best aspect of having access to instruments offered by EnviroMonitors for Chris is the ability to “have more control” on his course. The products are “so simple to use even I can use it and my colleagues have the same experience of the unit and can see the benefits to our water conservation”.

The next items of Chris’s wish list from EnviroMonitors is to access the mapping capabilities of the TDR300, by adding a GPS unit and SpecMaps Pro Turf software.
