Vantage Pro2

J Warner & Son is a family run farming business based in central Shropshire spread over 1500 acres comprising of several different operations including arable, poultry farming and other livestock. The farm has been in operation for three generations growing small quantities of beet and maize for local livestock farmers with their main crops consisting of wheat, oilseed rape and potatoes.

Edward Warner came to EnviroMonitors to purchase a Vantage Pro2 Weather Station, “We decided we would benefit from a weather station to efficiently record weather patterns”. Edward also knew the weather station information could benefit decision making when applying chemicals to crops. In addition, the Vantage Pro2 Weather Station offers the farm the option to add further sensors to monitor leaf wetness and soil moisture.

A large part of the farm business is rearing chickens. The farm produces about 1.4 million chickens a year for UK supermarkets through food processor Moy Park. The Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station provides the team at the farm with live temperature and humidity readings enabling them to decide when to ventilate the poultry houses. The WeatherLink Data Logger records this data historically to view on the WeatherLink software on a PC. If the Environment Agency receive a complaint the data from WeatherLink can then be analysed to see if the complaint is valid. It is important that these readings be local to the farm instead of relying on readings from a weather station 15 miles away.

Before purchasing the Vantage Pro2 Edward researched his options online and after reading many reviews decided on the Davis Vantage Pro2 from EnviroMonitors. “We chose EnviroMonitors because of their website and advice they were able to offer over the telephone.” He found the EnviroMonitors team “were, and continue to be, very helpful and well informed”.

Edward and his team have found the Vantage Pro2 to be very user friendly. “The unit is used by all staff on the farm as it is easy to view records, current data and the forecast facility. I would recommend this unit to anybody, amateur or professional, who is looking for accurate weather records and up to date information.”
